BAKACO processes pangasius sourced directly from the premium farming corridor of An Giang province — where water quality and decades of aquaculture expertise combine to produce consistent, high-yield fillets. Every format below is available in standard specification or to your custom requirements, and every shipment carries full traceability back to farm and harvest batch.

Below, the full range is organized by cut and trim level, with a dedicated specification page for each format. If you already know what you’re looking for, jump straight to it — otherwise, start with the trim-level guide below, since it’s the single most important specification decision for any pangasius order.

Section 1 of 5

Understanding trim levels — the key specification decision

Trim level is the single variable that most affects appearance, yield, and price across the pangasius range. Before choosing a cut format, it helps to understand the four standard trim grades — most of BAKACO’s fillet products are available across some or all of these levels.

Trim levelRed meatBelly / fatTypical useRelative price
Well-trimmedOffOffEU/US retail, premium food serviceHighest
Semi-trimmedOnOffMass-market food service, QSRMid
UntrimmedOnOnFurther processing, value proteinLower
Skin-onOnOn or offGrilling, pan-sear applicationsMid-low

Well-trimmed fillets have the red (dark) meat line, belly fat, and all skin fully removed — this gives the cleanest white appearance and the highest yield for consistent portion weights, which is why it’s the default choice for EU and US retail shelves. Semi-trimmed retains the red meat but removes the belly, offering a lower cost per kilogram that’s well suited to institutional and QSR buyers where visual presentation matters less than cost. Untrimmed keeps both the red meat and belly fat, making it the most economical option and a common choice for buyers who will further process the fillet themselves. Skin-on fillets retain the skin for grilling and pan-sear applications where the skin helps hold the fillet together during cooking.

Buyer tip

Trim level is the first thing to specify on any RFQ — it affects price more than almost any other variable. If you’re unsure which trim level fits your application, our export team can recommend based on your end use and target market.

Glazing, packaging, and private label options

Nearly all IQF (Individually Quick Frozen) pangasius is glazed — a thin water coating applied during freezing that prevents dehydration and freezer burn during transit. Standard glaze rates are 10%, 15%, or 20%, meaning the declared net weight is the drained weight after thawing. Always confirm which glaze basis a quoted price reflects before comparing suppliers.

Minimum shelf life is 18 months from production date at −18°C or below. Most buyers require at least 12 months’ remaining shelf life on arrival — confirm this requirement in your purchase order terms. Private label packaging is available on all formats with a typical minimum print run of one container; artwork should be submitted as a print-ready PDF ahead of production scheduling.

Custom cuts and specification requests

The 12 formats above cover the vast majority of buyer requirements, but BAKACO’s processing lines can also produce to your specific requirements where standard formats don’t fit — custom size grading bands, unusual trim combinations, or portion weights matched to a specific packaging line or menu format. This is common among food service distributors developing a private-label SKU or processors integrating pangasius into an existing product line.

To request a custom specification, share your target trim level, size range, and intended application with our export team — most feasibility and indicative pricing responses are returned within 24–48 hours.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between well-trimmed and semi-trimmed pangasius?
Well-trimmed pangasius fillets have the red meat, belly fat, and skin fully removed, giving the cleanest presentation and highest yield for retail and food service. Semi-trimmed fillets retain the red meat along the lateral line but have the belly and fat removed — a lower-cost option acceptable where appearance is secondary to price, such as institutional catering and QSR.
What pangasius cut types does BAKACO export?
BAKACO exports 12 standard formats: well-trimmed fillet, semi-trimmed fillet, untrimmed fillet, skin-on fillet, butterfly cut, HGT (head off, gutted, tail off), steak, roll, cube, strips, surimi, and whole pangasius. Custom cuts and specifications are also available on request.
What is the minimum order quantity for pangasius products?
The standard minimum order quantity is one 40-foot reefer container, approximately 20–24 metric tonnes of IQF frozen product. A 20-foot reefer (10–12 MT) can be arranged for trial or first orders, typically with a small premium on unit price.
What packaging options are available for pangasius products?
Standard packaging includes 1kg retail vacuum packs, 5–10kg PE bags in master cartons, or bulk IQF in master cartons. Private label with custom print on retail packs, inner bags, and master cartons is available, typically with a minimum print run of one container.
